One quick way to update the look of your home is with the judicious use of sconces for accent lighting. Sconces are an inexpensive way to add color and depth to the walls. In particular, the gentle light from candle wall sconces can give a subtle glow to your wall coverings while providing practical illumination.
Decorating rooms with sconces can embellish the life of any room in the home. Sconces are the perfect fit for adding accent lighting and mood in foyers, bathrooms, hallways, bedrooms, sprucing up negative space and focusing on special elements such as artwork. There is literally no space in the interior or exterior of the home where sconces can’t do magic. Negative space is an area on the wall that doesn’t really contribute any functional view to the room and basically looks sparse. You could add a mirror to this negative space and pair both sides with the accent lighting of sconces and magically this space is no longer "negative". This same decorative look can be accomplished above a master bed or above a fireplace. The decorating possibilities are boundless!
Don't forget the living room. This is one area that you certainly should to install sconce lighting in. If you have a fireplace, position a sconce near each of the two upper corners, or even halfway down each side. This will make for a very romantic setting. What if you don't own a fireplace? Try the same setup with your TV stand. One place in your living room which you should consider placing wall sconces is your doorway. Imagine how welcome your visitors will feel when they walk through.
The Mission Style: Craftsman wall sconces have a distinct basic style with strong structure, clean lines, and organic materials such as mica, wood, and copper. It focuses on a handmade look in contract to a factory reproduction. The Mission style emerged from the Arts and Crafts period and is still quite popular today. This style has primitive, plain lines and usually displays darker, warmer finishes.
One thing that also makes the wall sconce a great lighting choice is the versatility of all the different styles and finishes available. They come in modern designs and traditional designs and everything in between. They also come in a wide variety of materials that they are made from. Such as metal, copper, glass, wrought iron, ceramic and Tiffany stained glass.
