Modern wall sconces are very popular with many homeowners, however there are many raised eyebrows when they find out that initially wall sconces came into existence long before electricity was discovered. They were used to secure candles to the walls of homes, from modest residences to extravagant manors, and provide lighting to rooms, staircases, hallways, and the exteriors of dwellings.
The Mission Style: Craftsman wall sconces have a distinct basic style with strong structure, clean lines, and organic materials such as mica, wood, and copper. It focuses on a handmade look in contract to a factory reproduction. The Mission style emerged from the Arts and Crafts period and is still quite popular today. This style has primitive, plain lines and usually displays darker, warmer finishes.
The first place I waned to decorate was my dining room. I chose a couple of electric metal wall sconces to go in there. I placed two of the sconces on either side of the entryway and two more at the back of the room. I also inserted a dimmer switch so I can set the mood while eating, or turn them up all the way when I need full light. After I installed them, they looked absolutely stunning. And even better, they matched my chandelier perfectly.
You can choose from a wide variety of materials. You’ll find everything from wood to various metals. You can choose a finish that’s just right. Choose a glass or metal fixture.
Another good spot to install wall sconces is your bathroom. Place a sconce squarely on both sides of the mirror, above the wash basin. Alternatively if room doesn't allow it, you could place them directly onto the mirror, maybe one on each of the lower or upper corners. The aesthetics of your bathroom will look their best if you use candles.
